NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Averett University men's tennis fell to Rhodes College on Saturday in heartbreaking 5-4 fashion.
Averett (3-3) found itself up 2-1 over Rhodes (7-6) after doubles play with wins from sophomore
Martinho Goncalves and junior
Rufus Nurminen 8-6 vicotry at No. 1 doubles and at No. 2 doubles with an 8-6 victory from sophomore
Shori Nishizoe and freshman
Kazuki Fukushima.
Rhodes made an improbable comeback, winning four out of six singles points to take the 5-4 victory.
Averett earned wins at No. 2 singles from senior
Jorge Figueroa's 6-2, 3-6 7-6 (8-6) win over Oliver Bonovich. Six seed freshman
Prabjeet Chandhok picked up a 3-6, 6-1, 4-3 win by opponent retirement.
Averett is back in action next Thursday when it travels to Southern Virginia University, first serve is set for 2:30 p.m.
