FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Averett University baseball lost 13-3 to Immaculata University on Saturday evening to wrap up Day 2 of the Armstrong Invitational.
In the first inning, Averett (3-6-1) had sophomore
Kevin Zischke get on base after a throwing error by the shortstop. Sophomore
Gavin Colwell capitalized with a man on, scorching a double to left center to score Zischke all the way from first to put the Cougars up 1-0.
Immaculata (1-2) quickly tied the game 1-1 in the bottom half of the first inning. The Mighty Macs had a big inning in the third, scoring four runs. They continued increase their lead going into the fifth inning, leading 8-1.
In the bottom half of the fifth, junior
Drew Rabon was walked and advanced to second after sophomore
Mason Williams cracked a single into left field. Zischke hit a single towards the shortstop to advance Rabon to third, followed by a fielder's choice RBI from Colwell.
Senior
Kyle Wilson got on base after he swatted a single down the right field line. Junior
Brandt Brophy poked a single to shortstop followed by a throwing error to score Wilson from first, decreasing the deficit to 8-3.
Colwell had another productive performance, going 1-3 with an RBI double. Zischke had an impressive showing, going 2-4 and scoring one of Averett's three runs of the day.
The Cougars are back in action on Sunday when they face Methodist University at 2:30 p.m.
