LYNCHBURG, Va. — Averett University women's lacrosse fell 15-9 at the University of Lynchburg, giving the Cougars their first loss of the season Saturday in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action.

Averett (7-1, 2-1 ODAC) and Lynchburg (3-6, 1-0 ODAC) were tied 7-7 at halftime in a tight battle. The Hornets inched ahead 10-8 in the third before senior
Kelsey Steckroth's goal pulled the Cougars within 10-9 entering the fourth quarter.
Lynchburg held Averett off the scoreboard in the final frame while adding five more goals to escape with the win on the Hornets' Senior Day.
Averett jumped on Lynchburg early, racing out to a 5-1 lead in the first quarter before the Hornets bounced back to tie it up in the second.
Graduate student
Elizabeth Peasley finished with a hat trick, inching her three goals closer to third in NCAA Division III all-time career goals scored. Peasley now has 358 career goals, leaving her four shy of third place.

Faith Bowlin and senior
Raven Felder each had two goals for the Cougars, who also got an assist from Felder. Junior goalkeeper
Kaylee Joblon had a team-high seven ground balls and 18 saves. Bowlin added eight draw controls and sophomore
Kat Jay had three ground balls.
Averett returns to action at Bridgewater College on April 8.
