DANVILLE, Va. - Averett University men's tennis picked up a dominant 8-1 win over DII Shaw University on Monday for the team's fourth win in a row.
Averett (8-4) had a strong showing in doubles play, taking all three doubles points over Shaw (3-5).
Regionally-ranked doubles duo of senior
Jorge Figueroa and
Shori Nishizoe picked up a dominant 8-2 win at #2 doubles over the Bears' Augustin Gastaldi and Eduardo Valenca. Marking the duo's seventh-straight win.
Freshmen team of
Prabjeet Chandhok and
Kazuki Fukushima topped Aakashit Mahajan and Ilya Skobelev 8-4 at the No. 3 slot.
At #1 doubles sophomore
Martinho Goncalves and junior
Rufus Nurminen defeated Paul Charvoz and Tom Letecheur 8-5.
Moving into singles play Averett continued its moments with Nishizoe's 7-5, 6-2 win over Mahajan at #1. Nurminen picked up a 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (7-0) at #3 singles over Augustin Gastaldi.
Goncalves put Averett up 6-1 with his 6-1, 6-2 win over Tom Letecheur at #4. Chandhok coasted to a 6-3,6-0 win over Paul Charvoz at No. 5 and at #6 Fukushima topped Scott Ndengoue 6-3, 6-3.
Averett is back in action when it travels to Pfeiffer University on Thursday at 3 p.m.
