DANVILLE, Va. - Averett University women's tennis cruised to an 8-1 victory at home Sunday over Virginia Wesleyan University on Senior Day.

Averett (12-2, 7-1 ODAC) quickly swept all three doubles matches over Virginia Wesleyan (6-8, 3-5 ODAC).

Kicking-off her Senior Day, senior Alejandra Garcia and junior Paula Ryhsen earned Averett's first point of the match with an 8-3 win over the Marlins' Christine Zalameda and Shannon Lewes at #2. Sophomore Keira Gunning and freshman Brenda Poulakidas picked up an 8-5 win over  Alexa Brewster and Anna Rogers at the #1 position. Completing the doubles sweep, freshman Elisa Battermann and junior Daniela Poulakidas earned an 8-4 win over Maya Brown and Kristina Abrams.

Ryhsen downed Zalameda at #2 singles 6-1, 6-0. Brenda Poulakidas earned the clinching point for Averett with her 6-0, 6-4 win over Anna Rogers at #3.

Garcia picked up her second win of her Senior Day with her 6-4, 6-2 win over Shannon Lewes  at #4. Daniela Poulakidas cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win over Maya Brown at #5. Freshman Amelie Brune swept  Kristina Abrams 6-0, 6-0 at #6. 

Averett is back in action when it travels to the University of Lynchburg on Wednesday for a 12 p.m. first serve.
