SALEM, Va. - Averett University men's tennis swept past conference foe Roanoke College 9-0 on the road on Sunday.
Averett 5-4, 3-1 ODAC) swept all three doubles points from Roanoke (3-9, 1-5 ODAC).
Freshman
Kazuki Fukushima and sophomore
Shori Nishizoe teamed up at No. 1 doubles to take down Frederico Maccari and Zach Kriebel 8-2. At No. 2 doubles freshman
Theodor Garmo and junior
Philipp Bohnenkamp defeated Roanoke's Hardt Lesko and JohnHenry Harrington 8-6. Freshmen duo
Sam Egui and
Prabjeet Chandhok defeated Julio Marques and Jackson Wagner 8-3.
In singles play Garmo defeated Roanoke's Lance Beheler 6-3, 6-0 at No. 6 singles. Egui won in straight sets 6-0, 6-1 over Harrington at the No. 5 slot.
At No. 4 singles, Bohnenkamp defeated Marques 6-7(5-7), 6-4, 10-3 in thrilling fashion.
Chandhok earned a win at No. 3 singles, defeating Lesko 6-2, 6-1. Senior
Jorge Figueroa defeated Kriebel 6-1, 6-3. While at No. 1 singles Nishizoe took down Maccari 6-1, 6-0.
Averett is back in action when it hosts Guilford College at 3 p.m. April 4.
