DANVILLE, Va. — Averett University softball celebrated its three seniors on Monday during its Old Dominion Athletic Conference doubleheader. The Cougars lost 1-0 in the opener to the University of Lynchburg, which also took Game 2 11-0 in five innings.
In Game 1, Lynchburg (23-15, 11-7 ODAC) got a one-out double in the first inning to set up a two-out bloop RBI single by Sophie Tully to give the Hornets a 1-0 advantage. Both teams worked around runners on base the rest of the way as Lynchburg's lone run in the first inning held up.
Senior
Hannah Heath went 2-for-3 to lead the Cougars' offense in Game 1.
Junior right-hander
Taylor Sullivan allowed just one run on eight hits with five strikeouts for Averett (7-29, 2-14 ODAC).
In Game 2, senior
Karsin Lee broke up Lynchburg's perfect game with an infield single in the fourth. Lynchburg built a 6-0 lead in the first inning, then added four runs in the third and one in the fourth to pull away.
Prior to the game, Averett honored Heath, Lee and senior
Lauren Nelson before the game.
Averett travels to Randolph College on Wednesday.
