DANVILLE, Va. — Averett University men's soccer's match with Brevard College was halted with 10:18 left in the first half on Tuesday night, leaving the game as a no-contest result due to inclement weather.
Averett and Brevard kicked off at 5 p.m., but whe 25:29 left in the first half and the score 0-0, lightning caused a delay of one hour, 38 minutes. The two former conference foes resumed play at 7:02 p.m., and Averett was able to score twice. Junior
Oliver Kousholt bent a low-lining shot threw a crowd from 40 yards out past the keeper in the 33rd minute, and senior
Alexander Soerensen scored off a cross from redshirt senior
Daniel Starr to make it 2-0 Averett in the 34th minute. However, moments later another lightning strike in the vicinity in the 35th minute led the game to be stopped and it was decided play would not continue.
Because the game did not reach the minimum of 70 minutes played, all stats accrued will not count. There are no plans for the two teams to reschedule another play date.
Averett (2-1-1) returns to action on Friday against former conference foe Covenant College in a neutral-site match at Maryville College.
