Game Notes: Averett vs. Apprentice Ferrum
The Series: Averett is 0-3 all-time against Apprentice. The Builders won last season's opener in Danville 27-14, which was the first meeting between the two schools since 2002. This is Averett's first ever trip to Apprentice. The two teams were scheduled to play at Apprentice in 2001 and 2003, but those games were canceled because of the Sept. 11 attacks and a hurricane, respectively, in those years.
Averett at a Glance: Averett University football opens its 2023 season on the road in a non-conference game against the Apprentice School. The Cougars are coming off a 3-7 season in their first as members of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference in 2022. Averett returns four all-conference performers from last season and was picked sixth in the ODAC preseason poll.
