DANVILLE, Va.
— Averett University women's volleyball went 2-0 on Day 2 of the 29th Annual Cougar Classic with wins over Waynesburg University and Hollins University on Saturday afternoon.
In their first match of the day, the Cougars rolled past Waynesburg University in three sets. Averett had a strong start in the opening set and pulled away midway though for a 25-16 win in Set 1. In Set 2, The Yellow Jackets umped out to a 7-4 advantage before Averett settled in and surged back in front. A nice run with junior
Kayleigh Gentry at serve propelled the Cougars to a 19-11 advantage, which Averett finished off for a 25-12 win to take a 2-0 lead in the match. Averett owned the third set, soaring out to a 11-5 lead. The Cougars put the third set away 25-11 for the sweep.
Averett hit .388 as a team against Waynesburg, with senior
Emma Nash leading the team with 16 kills. Senior

Hope Parrish each had seven kills, senior
Erin Gray had a team-best 20 digs and Gentry had 10 digs. Junior
Kinsley Stevens added 24 assists and 12 digs for Averett from the setter position.
In its second match of the day, Averett rolled past Hollins in straight sets. The Cougars pulled away midway of the opening set to take Set 1 25-9. Averett opened up Set 2 on a 14-0 run to propel it to a 25-6 win. In the final set, the Cougars rolled past Hollins 25-13.
As a team, Averett hit .306 against Hollins. Nash paced the Cougars offense with eight kills while sophomore
Brenda Light had seven kills. Stevens handed out 17 assists for the offense while on the defensive side Gray totaled 11 digs and freshman
Allie Wilkerson had four blocks

Averett travels to play in Case Western Reserve University's tournament Sept. 8-9 in Cleveland, Ohio.
