DANVILLE, Va. - Averett University women's soccer downed Sweet Briar College 7-1 on Wednesday at home to win their third consecutive game.
Five Cougars got in on the scoring action with two scoring their first career goals.
Senior
Jenna Franklin put Averett (4-3-2) on the board first when she tapped the ball over the Sweet Briar (3-5) goalie in the fourth minute. The Cougars scored again four minutes later in from Junior
Celia de Diego that was assisted by Sophomore
Isobel Evans. In the 15th minute de Diego notched her second goal of the night unassisted. In the 19th minute, de Diego netted a hat trick off of a penalty kick, putting Averett up 4-0 early in the first.
In the 27th minute of play Junior
Asia Williams netted her first career goal, assisted by Freshman
Leah Brethren. In the 44th minute Brethren would score on her own from 35 yards out to take a 6-0 lead into half time.
Sweet Briar netted its lone goal of the night in the 49th minute.
Junior
Alyssa Veasey scored her first career goal in the 86th minute of play from de Diego.
As a team. Averett registered 26 shots with 13 shots on goal.
The Cougars are back in action when they host Shenandoah University at 7 p.m. Friday.
