Women's volleyball stays unbeaten in ODAC play, picks up seventh consecutive victory

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Averett University women's volleyball remained unbeaten in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play with a 3-1 road win over Guilford College on Wednesday night. The Cougars won 25-23, 18-25, 25-20 and 25-22.

Averett (10-4, 5-0 ODAC) has won seven in a row, including all five conference matches on the road.

The Cougars opened the first set by sliding out to a 22-17 lead before Guilford (12-3-, 3-1 ODAC) battled back to tie it, 22-22. Three kills by senior Emma Nash over the final four points of the set helped Averett go up 1-0 in the match.

A strong start for Guilford in the second set was nearly wiped away by Averett, but the Quakers managed to pull away late to even the match, 1-1. The Cougars, however, bounced back in Set 3. Tied 19-19 in the third frame, Averett won five consecutive points to edge Guilford. The two teams fought a tight battle in the fourth set. Knotted at 22-22, Averett got back-to-back kills from freshman Sydney Mounce and clinched the match on an attack error by Guilford.

Nash finished with a career-high 22 kills while swinging .313. Freshman Hope Parrish added 12 kills with Mounce finishing with 10 kills. Junior Erin Gray nearly had a career high with 32 digs, moving her within 55 digs of Averett's career record in the modern scoring era. Junior Kinsley Stevens finished with 27 assists and 13 digs, sophomore Dayton Moore had 23 assists and nine digs.

Averett returns home to host Randolph-Macon College on Friday at 6 p.m.
