DANVILLE, Va. — Averett University women's basketball lost its first home game of the 2024 calendar year as Bridgewater College pulled away for a 71-47 conference win over the Cougars on Friday night in the Grant Center.

Talia Prosper scored a team-high 15 points for Averett (4-11, 2-6 ODAC).
Bridgewater (9-3, 5-1 ODAC) jumped out to a 16-11 lead after one quarter, then extended its advantage to 36-24 by halftime. Led by Abby Freeman's 20 points and 11 rebounds and Jaden Alsberry's 11 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks, the Eagles kept Averett from any big runs in the second half.

The game was originally scheduled for Saturday but was moved up one day to avoid the potential winter weather in the forecast over the weekend.
Averett hosts Hollins University on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
