GREENSBORO, N.C. — Averett University men's golf senior
Killian O'Reilly turned in a season-opening top-four performance at the Gate City Invitational hosted by Greensboro College at Forest Oaks Country Club. O'Reilly shot a 10-under-par 206 at the two-day, 54-hole tournament that concluded Tuesday.

O'Reilly, the top finisher among Old Dominion Athletic Conference golfers, carded another 4-under 68 during the final round on the par-72 course. That followed up Monday's 68 during the first round, and he shot 2-over in the second round that was completed Tuesday morning after play was suspended late Monday due to darkness. O'Reilly finished three shots off the lead of 13-under, which was shared by Methodist University's Haden Ruby and Chase Watts. Sewanee's Turner Chiles was third at 11-under.

Averett placed 14th as a team in its first tournament of the fall season, finishing with a collective 5-over 869. Methodist won by six strokes with a 29-under 835. The field featured a number of nationally ranked teams.

Miguel Rodriguez Lamana shot 3-over for the tournament after a turning in a 3-over 75 during the final round to place 52th in a highly contested field. Junior
Alexander Vidmo finished at 8-over, while freshmen
Benjamin Afzelius and
Nick Baum shot 11-over each in their collegiate debut.
