SALEM, Va. — Averett women's volleyball put up a fierce fight but fell short 3-2 in a five-set match against Roanoke College on Wednesday night in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play.
Roanoke (11-6, 2-3 ODAC) took Set 1 27-25 and Set 2 25-19 to go up 2-0 in the match. Averett (9-11, 4-3 ODAC) made a comeback, taking Set 3 25-19 and then winning 25-18 in Set 4, tying with Roanoke 2-2. Roanoke defended its house, taking Set 515-5 while adding another conference win to its record.

Dayton Moore had a double-double of 23 assists and 11 digs. Not far behind her was senior
Kinsley Stevens, recording 19 assists for the Cougars.
Averett travels to Raleigh, North Carolina, on Saturday for two non-conference matchups against Knights of Southern Virginia University and the Pacers of William Peace University at 1 and 3 p.m., respectively.
