Averett at a Glance: Averett men's basketball team plays its first home game on Tuesday against non-conference foe Southern Virginia University. The Cougars opened the season with an 85-79 win over No. 20 Maryville College last Saturday. ... Junior Davion Bowens was tabbed as the Old Dominion Athletic Conference's Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. Bowens, a forward of Darlington, South Carolina, had a notable performance in his Averett debut. Bowens' double-double of 19 points, 15 rebounds and two blocks helped Averett knock off No. 20 Maryville College 85-79 last Saturday to open the season. Bowens' dominated the glass on the defensive end, grabbing 14 defensive boards. He also added a steal and two assists in the win.
