RALEIGH, N.C. — Averett University men's basketball remained undefeated by beating William Peace University 60-48 on Wednesday night. Four Cougars scored in double figures, with junior 
Davion Bowens' double-double of 14 points and 15 rebounds leading the way.
Averett (3-0) used a big run in the second half to pull away. William Peace (0-3) made an early run in the second half to trim a seven-point halftime deficit down to a 31-30 Averett lead with 15:55 to play. However, the Cougars responded by going on a 16-0 spurt over the next four-plus minutes that was part of a larger 24-5 run as Averett built a 55-35 lead with 8:25 to play. From there, the Cougars never let William Peace get closer than 12 points.
Graduate student 
Jason Sellars II made his season debut by scoring 14 points while grabbing eight boards off the bench. Freshman 
Jackson Sellars also contributed 13 points and seven rebounds in reserve, while freshman 
Mason Mitchell added 13 points and five rebounds.
Averett never trailed at any point in the game after Bowens drained a 3-pointer 21 seconds into the game. The Cougars extended their lead to as many as 13 points late in the second half before the Pacers cut it to 29-22 by halftime.
Although the Cougars shot season lows in field goal and 3-point percentage, their defense also kept William Peace under 36 percent shooting from the floor an held the Pacers to 2-for-20 from beyond the arc. Averett also won the battle on the class 39-34 and forced 20 turnovers.
Averett travels to play Greensboro College on Saturday at 2 p.m.
