DANVILLE, Va. — No. 17 Averett University men's wrestling went 4-1 with its Gold team as the Cougars hosted their annual Cougar Duals on Saturday at the Grant Center. Averett's Silver team finished 2-3 in the event.
 
Averett's Gold squad dominated Wilmington College 35-9 to open the day, then edged Division II Coker College 20-18 thanks to a pair of late major decisions to swing it in the Cougars' favor. Averett then cruised past Huntingdon College 48-3 and Division II Belmont Abbey College's Red team 40-7. The Cougars finished the event against Apprentice School, which won several close battles to edge Averett 28-13.

Junior Nolan Gerwitz went 4-0 for the Gold team at 184 pounds, including the decisive 12-3 major decision that was the difference in Averett's win over Coker. Meanwhile, junior Xavier Swanson went 5-0 on the day at 165 while junior Braeden Fluke went 4-1 with four wins by fall.
 
Averett returns to action at the Gator Boots Duals on Dec. 21.
