CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Averett University cheerleading team won first place in its respective category at the Global Cheer and Dance Regionals held Saturday.
Averett won the All Girl College Level champion with a partial paid bid to College Nationals in Nashville, Tennessee, in March. The Cougars were one of nine teams to receive a bid out of 34 in the awards session.
"I'm proud of every student-athlete today who put it all aside for their teammates," Averett head coach Hally Blake said. "This year we're working on the mindset of a champion, and today they went out and were champions not because of title but because of their unwavering commitment. Their determination for growth has been extremely impressive and inspiring.
The competition featured colleges, recreation and club teams ranging from Georgia to Virginia.
