DANVILLE, Va. — Averett University men's lacrosse dropped its first Old Dominion Athletic Conference home game 20-1 to Hampden-Sydney College on a rainy Wednesday night on Daly Field at Frank R. Campbell Stadium.
Averett (2-9, 1-2 ODAC) welcomed Hampden-Sydney (10-2, 4-0 ODAC) to Daly Field for the first time, and Hampden-Sydney came away with the conference victory. The Tigers hit their stride early and did not relinquish control of the game at any point.
The Tigers, on the verge on being nationally ranked, jumped out to a 12-0 lead before Averett was able to make an impression on the scoresheet. Junior
Brayton Powers scored the lone goal of the night for Averett, with an assist from freshman
Tigran Ceesay, at the 5:30 mark in the second quarter. With the score 12-1 after the Cougars' tally, Hampden-Sydney regained its footing and continued its masterful defense for the remainder of the evening. Junior
Cameron Prutzman amassed 20 saves on the night in goal for the Cougars.
Averett is back in action on the road against Randolph-Macon College on Saturday at 1 p.m.
