DANVILLE, Va. — Averett University women's lacrosse celebrated its senior day as the Cougars dropped an Old Dominion Athletic Conference clash with No. 24 Shenandoah University.
Averett (1-6, 0-2 ODAC) welcomed the nationally ranked Hornets of Shenandoah (7-2, 2-1 ODAC) to Daly Field at Frank R. Campbell Stadium for a conference match-up. Shenandoah took control from the game's opening whistle, as the Hornets jumped out to an 8-0 first quarter lead. The margin continued to widen for Shenandoah, as the Hornets took a 21-1 victory.
The Cougars' lone score of the contest came in the second quarter, from none other than junior
Faith Bowlin. Bowlin capitalized on a player-up opportunity as she sliced her way through Shenandoah's defense en route to her 17th goal of the season.Â
Averett celebrated two seniors as part of pregame festivities.
Irenia Torre and
Kaylee Joblon, alongside their families, were each recognized in front of the Cougars' crowd. Torre played a solid game, avoiding turnovers and keeping her name off of the game's busy penalty sheet. Joblon put on a fantastic performance in defense of Averett's net, the new program record holder for career saves added to her total with 17 on the day.
Averett is back in action on the road to take on Ferrum College on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
