HARRISONBURG, Va. — Averett University women's lacrosse drubbed Eastern Mennonite University in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play, 20-4.
It's officially a streak for Averett (3-10, 3-6 ODAC) as the Cougars have now won two in a row after soundly defeating EMU (3-11, 1-8 ODAC) to earn back to back conference wins.Â
Junior
Faith Bowlin was a dominant force on the offensive end for Averett, as she racked up 11 goals en route to the team's 16 goal victory. The Royals struck first in the contest, taking an early lead, before Averett leapt ahead courtesy of scores from Bowlin and freshman
Cayden Holdsworth. EMU tied tings back up at 2-2, before Averett scored what would go on to be the game winning goal, as the Cougars never relinquished control of the game.
Faith Bowlin fired a shot into the net with 7:43 to play in the first quarter, and Averett never looked back. The Cougars poured in four more goals in the first, two more from Bowlin, and one each from freshman
Kait Cashman and senior
Irenia Torre, ending the first 15 minutes with Averett ahead, 7-2.
The Royals struck first in the second quarter, just as they did in the first, but once again it was all Averett afterwards. Bowlin added another goal to her tally, and freshman
Gracie Kean followed suit by scoring two goals of her own. An efficient second quarter ended, and the game headed into halftime, with Averett already up big, 10-3.
Averett continued to pile it on in third quarter action, as the Cougars finally scored the ice-breaking goal in the quarter. Bowlin added to her already impressive day with the first two scores in the third frame, before the rest of the Cougars' squad joined the fun. Torre, Holdsworth, and Cashman each netted their second goals of the day as Averett flexed its muscles and extended its advantage, 15-4.
With the fate of the game decided long ago, the Cougars could have taken the fourth quarter easy, but showed no such mercy. Sophomore
Emma Miller chipped in a goal, but the
Faith Bowlin show continued on just as it had in the first three quarters of play. Averett's star added four more goals to her massive outburst, refusing to let off the gas until the final whistle blew, Averett securing a 20-4 conference victory.
The Cougars return home for their next action, as Daly Field at Frank R. Campbell hosts its final women's lacrosse game of the season, with Randolph College paying a visit to Averett at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
