GREENSBORO, N.C. – Averett University men's lacrosse lost to Guilford College on the road, 23-6.
Averett (3-14, 1-7 ODAC) visited conference foe Guilford (7-9, 3-5 ODAC) and dropped the Old Dominion Athletic Conference clash, with the Quakers having the wire to wire lead.
Junior
Dawson Hobbs scored the first goal of the contest for Averett at the 9:19 mark of the first quarter. Another sophomore,
Emmett Wood, scored next for the Cougars. Wood fired a shot into the back of the net with 9:06 remaining in the second quarter. Heading into halftime Averett trailed Guilford, 13-2.
The Quakers kept up their impressive performance in the second half. Guilford continued to extend its lead before Wood scored his second goal of the contest in the third quarter, cutting the deficit to 18-3. Averett found more success in the fourth quarter of play than the previous three, as the Cougars played their way to three goals in the frame. Wood scored two more for Averett, and Hobbs added his second of the game. Sophomores
Cameron Prutzman and
Andrew Guynn combined to make 10 saves in defense of Averett's net.
Averett men's lacrosse has just one game left on its slate, and it's a senior day celebration. The Cougars host Shenandoah University on Saturday at 1 p.m. from the friendly confines of Daly Field at Frank R. Campbell Stadium.
