BRIDGEWATER, Va. — Averett University men's lacrosse fell to Bridgewater College on the road in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play, 18-4.
Averett (2-11, 1-4 ODAC) struggled out of the gates as Bridgewater (4-9, 2-4 ODAC) jumped to a 5-0 lead before the Cougars found the net. Junior Brayton powers, with an assist from freshman
Tigran Ceesay, opened the scoring for Averett with his 11th goal of the season. Bridgewater bounced back as the Eagles closed the first quarter in the lead, 8-1.
Junior
Dawson Hobbs put the Cougars on the board in the second quarter to cut into Bridgewater's lead. The Eagles continued to stave off Averett's comeback efforts as the game entered halftime 12-2 in favor of the home side.
Sophomore
Cameron Shadduck kicked off the second half in style for Averett. Shadduck fired the opening salvo in the third quarter for the Cougars' third goal of the day. Hobbs added one more to his tally in the fourth quarter, while sophomore
Cameron Prutzman totaled 18 saves in the 18-4 defeat.
Averett faces a tough test in its next event.The Cougars travel to play No. 12 Washington and Lee University on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
