RALEIGH, N.C. – Averett University women's soccer dropped its first match of the season in a 3-1 outing against Meredith College.
Averett (1-1-1) came up short against Meredith (4-1-0) as the Cougars started off their two game road swing on the wrong foot.
The Avenging Angels got out of the gates hot, breaking the ice just over one minute into play. Meredith continued to extend its lead in the opening half, jumping out to a 3-0 advantage before Averett found the net. The Cougars' lone score came courtesy of sophomore
Leah Brethren, her second of the season. Senior goalkeeper
Tiffany Hargett logged three saves in defense of the Cougars' net.
