Women's volleyball defeats Guilford in straight sets for first ODAC win of season

DANVILLE, Va. – Averett women's volleyball secured a 3-0 victory over Guilford College in its Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) opener on Wednesday evening at the E. Stuart James Grant Center.

Averett (4-7, 1-0 ODAC) won by set scores of 25-22, 25-23 and 25-21. The team maintained a steady attack, finishing with a .232 hitting percentage, while holding Guilford (3-7, 0-1 ODAC) to a .190 hitting percentage.

Averett's offense was led by graduate student Emma Nash with eight kills and sophomore Allie Wilkerson, who had 10 kills and a .450 hitting percentage. Freshman Emily McIntosh matched Wilkerson with a team-high 10 kills. Despite their efforts, Averett's balanced attack and defensive prowess proved too much for the Quakers. Nash and fifth-year libero Erin Gray paced Averett with a team-high 13 digs, while junior setter Dayton Moore also had double-digit digs with 11 to go with 18 assists.

The Cougars return to action Friday at home as they continue ODAC play against Bridgewater College at 6 p.m.
