DANVILLE, Va. – Averett women's volleyball secured a 3-0 victory over Guilford College in its Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) opener on Wednesday evening at the E. Stuart James Grant Center.
Averett (4-7, 1-0 ODAC) won by set scores of 25-22, 25-23 and 25-21. The team maintained a steady attack, finishing with a .232 hitting percentage, while holding Guilford (3-7, 0-1 ODAC) to a .190 hitting percentage.
Averett's offense was led by graduate student
Emma Nash with eight kills and sophomore
Allie Wilkerson, who had 10 kills and a .450 hitting percentage. Freshman
Emily McIntosh matched Wilkerson with a team-high 10 kills. Despite their efforts, Averett's balanced attack and defensive prowess proved too much for the Quakers. Nash and fifth-year libero
Erin Gray paced Averett with a team-high 13 digs, while junior setter
Dayton Moore also had double-digit digs with 11 to go with 18 assists.
The Cougars return to action Friday at home as they continue ODAC play against Bridgewater College at 6 p.m.
