FERRUM, Va. — Senior
Celia de Diego scored a goal to pull into a tie for first place on Averett's all time leader board, as the Cougars fell to Ferrum College (7-0-0), 3-1.
De Diego scored in the 25th minute, the 41st goal in her career with the Cougars (1-2-2), as the senior from Valladolid, Spain, continued to climb the ranks among Averett's all-time greats.
De Diego's strike marked the only time Averett found the net in the contest. The Cougars fell behind early, trailing 2-0 before de Diego's goal. The score remained 2-1 heading into halftime, and while Averett fought to claw back into the contest against the Panthers, it would be Ferrum who struck next. The Panthers tacked on the game's final score in the 76th minute, pushing the lead to the 3-1 final.
Senior goalkeeper
Tiffany Hargett added five saves for the Cougars, while de Diego led the charge on offense with four shots on goal.
