Women's volleyball shows grit in competitive match against Mary Washington

LEXINGTON, VA — Averett University (1-4) fell to the University of Mary Washington (4-2) in straight sets (25-20, 25-23, 25-18) at the Duchossois Athletic & Recreation Center.

Despite recording 56 digs, Averett struggled with consistency, finishing with a .121 hitting percentage and 23 errors. Serve reception proved challenging as well, with the team committing 10 receiving errors and managing just 1 service ace against 4 service errors. Hope Parrish led the Cougars with 11 kills and a .161 hitting percentage, while Sydney Mounce added 7 kills and 8 digs. Destiny McIntosh also made a strong contribution with 5 kills and a .500 hitting percentage, and Dayton Moore anchored the defense with a team-high 14 digs.

The Cougars will face Southern Virginia University and St. Mary's College of Maryland Saturday starting at 11 a.m. to wrap up the Washington & Lee University Invitational.
