BREVARD, N.C. – The Averett University men's soccer team fought back from two goals down early, and equalized in the second half to draw 3-3 at Brevard College on Saturday afternoon.
Setting up after a foul by the opposition, senior defender/midfielder
Oliver Kousholt sent a left-footed shot from 31 yards out, off the crossbar and past the keeper to tie the contest for Averett (2-1-1) in the 62nd minute.
The Cougars went down a score early, as Brevard (0-2) opened with a 7th minute goal by Vitor Razera, rebounding in a shot off the crossbar. Their lead was doubled 12 minutes later, when Ryan Lynch booted in a free kick from just inside midfield.
Averett countered with junior
Daniel Lilley, delivering on a crossing pass from
Leandre Tyssandier to cut its deficit to a single goal. The duo replicated their efforts in swift fashion, equalizing in the 37th minute when the freshman sent in a low cross from the left that Lilley put through convincingly.
Brevard went back on top early into the second period when Luiz Pontez took a through ball into a one-on-one with the netminder, and went past him to slot in an open-netter for the 3-2 advantage.
On the day, Tyssandier finished with two assists, a team high this season. The Cougar offense tallied four shots on goal, and graduate student goalkeeper
Tyler Yates made five saves.
Averett returns home for two games at Daly Field at Frank R. Campbell Stadium, the first coming against Greensboro College on Sept. 11 at 7 p.m.
