Men's basketball loses road matchup with Randolph-Macon

ASHLAND, Va. — Averett University men's basketball got 14 points from freshman Jackson Sellars, but the Cougars fell short 77-54 at Randolph-Macon College on Old Dominion Athletic Conference play on Saturday.

Averett (5-7, 0-3 ODAC) led 5-2 in the opening minutes but a 6-0 run by Randolph-Macon (9-3, 3-1 ODAC) midway through the period helped the Yellow Jackets get the upper hand. Randolph-Macon, which is receiving votes in the D3hoops.com poll and was ranked No. 7 in the preseason, finished the half on strong note to take a 42-27 advantage into the break after shooting 53.6 percent in the first half.

Randolph-Macon kept Averett at bay in the second half to send the Cougars to their seventh loss in a row after starting the season 5-0.

Sellars led the Cougars in scoring, finishing one point shy of his career high. He went a perfect 10-for-10 from the foul line and grabbed six rebounds. Sophomore Jamison Graves had 10 points, while Jason Sellars II added eight points and a team-high eight rebounds and redshirt freshman Timayahs Bracey chipped in eight points.
