DANVILLE, Va. — Averett University football fell 67-7 to Hampden-Sydney College Saturday during Homecoming Weekend on Daly Field at Frank R. Campbell Stadium.
Hampden-Sydney (5-1, 3-1 ODAC), which is receiving votes in the national poll, scored three touchdowns in the opening quarter on its way to a 46-0 lead by halftime.
Down 53-0 late in the third quarter, Averett (0-6, 0-4 ODAC) scored its lone touchdown on a 1-yard touchdown pass from sophomore quarterback

Jamahrie Owens. The Cougars had another touchdown called back for holding and another near touchdown ruled incomplete.

Hoffman completed 12 passes on 18 attempts for 108 yards in his first action of the season. The Cougars also got 55 passing yards and 15 rushing yards late from freshman quarterback

DeMarcus Sharper led the defense with 10 total tackles while sophomore
Joziah Campbell had eight tackles. Both also had one pass breakup.
