SWEET BRIAR, Va. – Averett University women's soccer won its Old Dominion Athletic Conference road test against Sweet Briar College.
Averett (3-10-1, 2-6-0 ODAC) took the short trip north to take on Sweet Briar (4-10-0, 0-9-0 ODAC) and came away with a 2-0 victory over the Vixens.
The Cougars opened the scoring with a freshman connection, as
Delaney Haymore set up
Isabella Kelly to deliver an excellent strike that set the Averett side up for victory. Sweet Briar fought well to keep Averett's attack quiet for a majority of the night, but the Cougars found the net once more in the second half. Kelly scored once again, this time with an assist from senior
Gianna Minafo, that put Averett ahead by two goals.Â
Junior
Krista Hinebaugh kept the goal locked down from the opening kick to the final whistle to earn her first career clean sheet, making 10 saves en route to doing so.
Back in the win column, the Cougars are back on the road one final time in the regular season. Averett has a date with No. 9 Washington and Lee University on Saturday, Oct. 25, at 1 p.m.
