WINCHESTER, Va. – Averett University men's soccer was halted in the ODAC playoff chase in a six-pointer Saturday night, losing at Shenandoah University 3-0.
Shenandoah (5-8-4, 2-4-2 ODAC) and Averett (4-7-4, 2-5-1 ODAC) were gridlocked through 33 minutes, as both keepers kept the teams at distance to make an impact. By the 33rd minute, however, the Hornets struck gold first, as James Blalock shot the home team into the lead.
Shenandoah doubled its lead in the 54th, then put away the conference contest with a late score to finish up the 3-0 win.
The Cougars totaled 10 shots as a team, with five on goal.
Daniel Sierra led the pack with three shots, and goalkeeper
Anibal Lopez kept his ODAC-leading season in saves with 10 on the night.
The regular season comes down to a must win contest in Harrisonburg, Virginia to stay in playoff contention, as Averett squares off against Eastern Mennonite University on Wednesday, Oct. 29. Start time is set for 7 p.m.
