Two Averett men's golfers finish in top 13 as Cougars finish play at West Pines Invitational

DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. — Averett University men's golf had two finish in the top 13 as the Cougars tied for 10th as a team Tuesday at the West Pines Invitational hosted by Oglethorpe University.

Freshman Chase Myers, who won his last event, notched his second consecutive top-10 finish by placing sixth. Myers shot 2-over-par during Tuesday's final round to finish at 1-over for the tournament at the two-day, 54-hole event. Myers' day was highlighted by an eagle on the par-5 No. 17 for the second consecutive day. Averett's best performer during the final round was sophomore Benjamin Afzelius, who shot an even-par 71 on the par-71, 6,739-yard course at West Pines Golf Club. Afzelius finished at 3-over for the tournament, earning him 13th overall.

Mary Hardin-Baylor University's Colton O'Dell held off Rhodes College's Parker Tenent by one stroke to win after shooting 7-under for the event. Rhodes maintained its first-day lead, shooting a collective 2-over to win by nine strokes.

Averett, which shot 16-over as a team during the final 18 holes, carded a 31-over 883 to earn a three-way tie of 10th place in the 21-team tournament.

Freshman Lukas Newton shot 12-over for the tournament, while senior Miguel Rodriguez Lamana finished at 15-over and sophomore Zach Always shot 22-over.

Averett finishes off its fall schedule Oct. 27-28 at the O'Brient-Jensen Memorial hosted by Guilford College.
