DANVILLE, Va. — Three Cougars scored in double figures as Averett University men's basketball rolled past William Peace University 83-60 on Tuesday evening in the Grant Center.
With a 14-point at halftime, Averett (4-1) dominated the second half by shooting 56.3 percent from the floor over the final 20 minutes as the Cougars' lead extended to as many as 30 points, 75-45, with 5:12 to play.
Averett put together one of its best offensive outputs of the early season with season-highs in points, made field goals and rebounds. Junior
Josh Seiler led the Cougars with a career-high 19 points off the bench as Averett utilized all 17 players on its roster against the Pacers.
In the opening half, Averett eventually distanced itself from William Peace (3-2) midway through the period as redshirt sophomore
Timayahs Bracey exploded for all 17 of his points over the first 20 minutes of play — including hitting a 3-pointer in the final seconds to give the Cougars a 39-25 halftime lead.
In addition to Seiler's 19 points and Bracey's 17 points, sophomore
Jackson Sellars chipped in 12 points and a team-high nine rebounds. Junior
Josh Lewis also grabbed a career-high seven boards for Averett, which has won four in a row.
Averett breaks for Thanksgiving before returning to action on Dec. 3 at Washington and Lee University to begin Old Dominion Athletic Conference play.
