DANVILLE, Va. – Averett University women's basketball concluded November with an 83-37 loss to No.19/RV Christopher Newport University on Tuesday night at the Grant Center.
Ranked Christopher Newport (5-2) blitzed to a 27-9 lead before the second quarter begun, but Averett (1-4) found glimpses of offensive success through the following period. Dropping 11 points collectively as a team, the Cougars also forced the Captains into turnover trouble with four.
Christopher Newport's lineup produced its way to a 49-20 lead at the half, led by opposing guard Caitlin Crump.
DaiShaundria Giggetts filled various stat lines thus far, with six points, two rebounds, two steals and a block.
Averett ended up scoring 17 points in the second half due to strong team play, but the Captains' array of players kept Averett out of reach, more than doubling the home side's score to win 83-37 at the buzzer.

Jy'Lyia Mizell tied for the most points with eight, while
Elisa Harris sat right behind with seven tallies. The senior guard also corralled the most rebounds team-wise with six. Three Cougars contributed a block, and Giggetts swiped three steals.
Averett returns to basketball action out of Thanksgiving break on Tuesday, Dec. 2, opening ODAC play versus No. 6/7 Washington and Lee. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
