Graves scores 31 as men's basketball drops ODAC matchup with Guilford

DANVILLE, Va. — Sophomore Jamison Graves scored 31 points but Averett University men's basketball's halftime lead eroded in the second half as Guilford College's offense heated up to push the Quakers to a 91-71 conference win Saturday evening in the Grant Center.

Averett (8-12, 3-8 ODAC) opened the game with momentum, taking an 18-9 lead in the first eight minutes on Guilford (16-4, 9-2 ODAC), which is receiving votes in the D3hoops.com poll. Guilford quickly made up the difference, taking a 23-22 advantage with 6:23 left in the half. However, 3-pointers late in the half by Graves and sophomore Isaiah Ramazani helped Averett take a 36-32 advantage into the locker room.

Guilford came out hot in the second half, hitting multiple shots from beyond the arc as part of a 20-4 run that turned the tides in the Quakers' favor. Graves helped keep Averett close, but Guilford's lead grew to as many as 24 with 6:03 to play. The Quakers shot 72.4 percent from the floor in the second period and hit 13 3-pointers for the game.

In addition to Graves' 31 points, Ramazani chipped in eight points off the bench. Sophomore Terrell Fitzgerald grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.

Averett returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 8, when the Cougars play host to Ferrum College at 4:30 p.m.
