Men's volleyball falls in three to Randolph

DANVILLE, Va. — Averett University men's volleyball fell to Randolph College in straight sets, 3-0, on Friday for their fourth conference loss of the season.

Randolph (4-7, 1-2 ODAC) defeated Averett (2-9, 0-4 ODAC) with scores of 25-12, 25-12 and 25-15.

While the WildCats took the first set to gain an early 1-0 lead in the match, the Cougars gained momentum in the second set, often keeping the score tied, before the WildCats ultimately took the set.

A kill by junior Nicholas Breen in the third set was able to put the Cougars within a five point lead with a score of 14-19 until a WildCat service ace finished the match.

Freshman Yerai Collazo tallied six kills for the Cougars' offense, while sophomore Finn Oakley and junior Kendrick Sasu-Twumasi had four a piece. Junior Diego Giffuni had nine assists and fellow setter sophomore Shaun Freeman had six. On the Cougars' defense, junior Anibal Lopez recorded seven digs and Collazo had six.

The Cougars are back home Wednesday when they host Roanoke College at 6:30 p.m.
