DANVILLE, Va. — Averett University men's volleyball fell in three sets to Virginia Wesleyan University at home on Wednesday.
Virginia Wesleyan (9-4, 2-2 ODAC) defeated Averett (2-11, 0-6 ODAC) with scores of 25-20, 25-8 and 25-21.Â
The Marlins took an early lead in the first set, but the Cougars fought back staying within three points of the Marlins, until ultimately losing Set 1.Â
Virginia Wesleyan controlled the second set. The Marlins grabbed the early lead and maintained it in en route to a 25-8 victory.
In Set 3, a block by sophomore
Shaun Freeman and junior
Kendrick Sasu-Twumasi were able to draw the Cougars back within striking distance before the Marlins closed out the match.

Finn Oakley recorded four kills, while sophomore
Dominick Jenkins and freshman
Liam Audrain had three a piece. Junior
Diego Giffuni orchestrated the Cougars' offense with seven assists, while Freeman had five. On the Cougars defense, junior
Anibal Lopez had 12 digs.
The Cougars travel to Harrisonburg, Virginia on Friday for a conference match against Eastern Mennonite University at 6 p.m.Â
