DANVILLE, Va. — Averett University men's volleyball fell to Eastern Mennonite University in straight sets, 3-0, on Wednesday.
Eastern Mennonite (3-4, 2-0 ODAC)Â defeated Averett (1-8, 0-3 ODAC) with scores of 25-9, 25-18 and 25-20.Â
After a first set that saw the Royals take an early 1-0 lead in the match, Averett fought back in second set action. A block by sophomore
Dominick Jenkins and freshman
Liam Audrain was able to put the Cougars within five points of the lead, making the score 21-16, before the Royals ultimately took the second set.Â
The Cougars picked up momentum in the third set, eventually tying the score 11-11 with a kill from freshman
Yerai Collazo. Throughout the remainder of the set, Averett trailed Eastern Mennonite until a Royals kill finished the match.
Collazo executed five kills, while junior
Nicholas Breen and Audrain tied with four for the Cougars' offense. Junior
Diego Giffuni had seven assists. On defense, Jenkins recorded 3 block assists while junior libero
Anibal Lopez tallied 10 digs.Â
The Cougars are back in action on Friday when they host Warren Wilson College at 6 p.m. in the Grant Center.Â
