LYNCHBURG, Va. – Averett University track and field took the stage on Day 1 of the Liberty Open.
The day's action featured valiant efforts from the Cougars' entries against a field filled with talent. Sprinters for Averett took to the track first. Fifth year
Nick Andrews crossed the line as the highest placing men's finisher, coming home 41st with a time of 7.16 seconds in the 60m. Sophomore
Hailey Juhasz paced the women's sprinters, scoring a 52nd-place finish thanks to a 8.32 second dash.
As the events lengthened, the Cougars' pack-leaders remained the same. In the 200m run, Andrews and Juhasz led the way for Averett, finishing 85th and 65th respectively. Andrews posted a time of 24.57 seconds, while Juhasz crossed the line in 27.58 seconds.
With sprinters done for the day, distance runners stepped onto the track. Sophomore
Azael Quintero entered into the men's 100m race. Quintero scored a 35th-place finish with a time of 2:53.42.
Averett is right back at it Saturday morning, as the Cougars compete in Day 2 action at the Liberty Indoor Open, starting at 11 a.m.
