SALEM, Va. — Averett University men's wrestling lost 33-8 to No. 7 Roanoke College in the Cougars' final Old Dominion Athletic Conference dual of the season on Saturday night.
Down 5-0 early after losing at 141 pounds, Averett rattled off two consecutive wins to briefly take the lead. Freshman
Andres Cortes won at 149 with an 11-2 major decision and senior
Anthony Taylor won by a 9-2 decision at 157. However, those were the lone victories for the Cougars against the Maroons.
An Averett win would have led to a three-way tie for the ODAC regular season crown, but Roanoke's win Saturday gave the Maroons the title outright.
Averett turns its attention toward next week's ODAC Championships, which will be hosted by Washington and Lee University.
