FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – In a non-conference matchup on Saturday afternoon, Averett University men's lacrosse lost 14-4 to Methodist University at Monarch Stadium.
Methodist (3-3), controlled tempo for most of the first and second periods, scoring the contest's first seven goals before senior attack
Brayton Powers got Averett (1-4) its first score. Despite their best efforts, the Monarchs would strike back with three more goals before halftime, leading 10-1 at the break.
In a third period where Averett's defense played the majority strong, only giving up two goals, the Cougars swung slight momentum back in their favor in the fourth, leading 3-2 in overall scores.
Tigran Ceesay netted two in the fourth alone, along with
Zachary Hulbert, but Methodist's fast and outpaced start led to the finish, winning 14-4 by the end.
Ceesay led all Cougars with two goals.
Dawson Hobbs and Powers grabbed an assist each, while
Giovanni D'Amico led in ground balls with five. Freshman goalkeeper
Robbie Isenhour knotted 20-plus saves for the second straight start, finishing with 20.
The Cougars return back home to Daly Field at Frank R. Campbell Stadium on Tuesday, Mar. 4, for a non-conference matchup versus Chatham University. Start time is set for 3 p.m.
