RALEIGH, N.C. — Averett University softball edged Meredith College 4-3 in Game 1, then put together a dominant 12-3 performance in six innings to sweep the Avenging Angels in a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday.

That momentum carried into Game 2 as Averett plated seven runs in the second inning. Seniors Hannah Jones and Angela Rodriguez each had two-run singles as part of the big inning. The Cougars' lead grew to 10-0 in the top of the fifth. Although Meredith scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth, Averett added two more runs in the sixth to end the game early.
