No. 37 women’s tennis dispatches Randolph-Macon to open ODAC slate

DANVILLE, Va. – No. 37 Averett University women's tennis opened up ODAC play with a sounding 7-0 win over Randolph-Macon College on Saturday afternoon at the Averett Tennis Courts.
 
Doubles play came down to the wire to clinch the first point, but Averett's (3-2, 1-0 ODAC) No. 2 pairing of Amelie Schroeder and Sunna Mass got the 6-4 set win over Meckenzie Letellier and Emma Turner from Randolph-Macon (4-1, 1-1 ODAC) to go up 1-0, headed into singles. 

Matches three through six went the Cougars' way, with neither play losing more than a game per set. Ella Boddington made her spring debut with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles. Ravaka Ramanantoanina had a tough fight versus the Yellow Jackets' Camilla Thurman, but prevailed 7-6 (7-3), 7-5. Brenda Poulakidas at No. 2 also went to a first set tiebreaker versus Catherine Mowry, but got the victory, 7-6 (9-7), 6-0.

Averett hits the courts next on Tuesday, Mar. 11, for an ODAC dual at Bridgewater College. Start time is set for 2 p.m.
