DANVILLE, Va. – Averett University women's tennis was unscathed as it swept old USA South conference foe, Pfeiffer University, 7-0 on Wednesday afternoon at the Averett Tennis Courts.
Averett (7-3) and its doubles teams didn't seem to break a sweat in taking the first point, with all teams combining to lost just one game in the first three matches. Some of the pairs were swapped, including the No. 3 duo of
Elisa Battermann and
Sunna Maass, but took care of Pfeiffer's (8-4) Haley Ingenito and Alison Sloop, 6-1.
The Falcons put up a valiant fight through the singles battles, but the depth of the Cougars was too strong, as each player convincingly put a wrap on the rubber, and extended its winning streak to three.
With non-conferences matches all but done, Averett returns back to the heart of Old Dominion Athletic Conference action, playing a pair of Old Dominion Athletic Conference matches. The Cougars play at the University of Lynchburg and home versus Ferrum College on Friday, March 28. Start time versus the Hornets is set for 1:30 p.m., and first doubles versus the Panthers is set for 3 p.m.
