BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Averett University baseball fell to Bridgewater College twice on Saturday.
Averett (13-8, 5-5 ODAC) visited Bridgewater (15-8-1, 7-2-1 ODAC) for two Old Dominion Athletic Conference contests on Saturday and fell to the Eagles in both, 10-0 and 12-3.
Game 1 ended early, with Bridgewater pulling ahead in a big way in the first two innings, leading 8-0 by the top of the third. The Eagles tacked on two more in the bottom of the sixth and blanked the Cougars in the top of the seventh inning to secure the run-rule victory in seven innings.
Game 2 started with a clean first inning before the Eagles resumed their scorching hot hitting. Bridgewater put the game away in the bottom of the second inning, piling on six runs to jump into the lead.
The Cougars' found their swing in the bottom of the sixth inning to put runs on the board. Sophomore
Drew Skinner led off with a single, sophomore
Tyler Lowe did exactly the same to put two on base for Averett. Sophomore
Maddox Jordan doubled down the left field line to score two Cougars, and senior
Mason Williams added another double to trade spots with his teammate and score the Cougars third and final run of the day.
Senior
Kevin Zischke recorded a solid day, combining for four hits across the two game series. Lowe also saw the ball well on Saturday, posting three hits in the days' action.
Averett is back at home to take on Ferrum College on Wednesday, April 2, at 3 p.m.
