DANVILLE, Va. — Averett University women's lacrosse tacked on another win on home turf with a 14-10 victory against conference foe Ferrum College on Saturday.
Sophomore Cayden Holdsworth netted the first goal for the Cougars (4-4, 3-4 ODAC) at the 8:53 mark of the first quarter, with an assist from junior Lisanne Guiaux. The Panthers (5-8, 2-6 ODAC) continued to trade goals with the Cougars throughout the remainder of the first quarter.
Ferrum kept a close lead throughout the second quarter. Goals from senior Celia de Diego, juniors Lisanne Guiaux and Gianna Minafo, Holdsworth, and Bowlin were able to give Averett a 10-5 lead going into halftime.Â
The second half opened up with a free-position shot from Bowlin, her 45th goal of the season. Shortly after, Minafo found the back of the net to maintain their distance from Ferrum.Â
The Panthers' claimed three free-position shots at the start of the fourth quarter, putting them within striking distance of the Cougars, but not before Bowlin gained her fifth and final free-position shot of the day to close out the match.Â
Bowlin led the Cougars' offense with six goals, while Minafo and Holdsworth tied with three a piece. Guiaux, Minafo, and Holdsworth also recorded two assists each.Â
On the defense, junior Brianna Sams had four ground balls. Sophomore Zariia America, Sams, and de Diego had two caused turnovers a piece.Â
Junior Caitlin Alperstein made 15 saves in goal for the Cougars.Â
Averett hosts Randolph-Macon College on Wednesday for a conference match at 7 p.m.Â
