Women’s tennis triumphs over Virginia Wesleyan at home

DANVILLE, Va. – Averett University women's tennis got back on track in conference play with a 6-1 victory over Virginia Wesleyan University at the Averett Tennis Courts on Saturday morning.

Averett (11-4, 6-1 ODAC) faced little resistance in doubles, taking the sweep to garner the first point. The Cougars, with minor change to the singles lineup, won five out of six to win their 11th match of the season. Annika Kellerer, featured at No. 5, earned her 11th win individually over Mikisha Thomas of Virginia Wesleyan (5-7, 3-3 ODAC), 6-1, 6-0.

The Marlins did scrap a point, as Jette Hafermann battled Siddhi Khot to a three-set win with 10-8 score in the final set super-tiebreaker.

The Cougars remain at home, returning to ODAC action next Saturday, April 19, as they welcome Shenandoah University to the Averett Tennis Courts. Start time is set for 10 a.m.
