Women’s tennis sweeps Shenandoah for seventh ODAC win

DANVILLE, Va. – Averett University women's tennis battled visitors Shenandoah University on Saturday morning, and came out on top with a 7-0 win.

Averett (12-4, 7-1 ODAC) got its usual contributions from the doubles lineups, performing as well as it has been all spring to go up 1-0. Ella Boddington and Mirte Post looked especially impressive for the Cougars, with a 6-0 defeat of Kendra Gillette and Leigha Montrief of Shenandoah (8-6, 5-5 ODAC).

Ravaka Ramanantoanina got her ninth win of 2024-25 at No. 1 by defeating Tanea Spruill, 6-3, 6-1. Elisa Battermann remained unblemished in conference play with win number five by dispatching Montrief, 6-0, 6-3. The rest of the lineup got through its matches in swift fashion as the ODAC championships loom on the horizon in the coming weeks.

With the sweep, Averett scored its first win versus the Hornets since 2009, when the Cougars were victorious, 5-4 over Shenandoah back in the USA South conference tournament.

One last weekend of regular season action awaits the women's tennis squad, as Averett heads up to Sweet Briar, Virginia for a pair of matches versus Hollins University and Sweet Briar College. Start time for the first of two clashes on Friday, April 25 is set for 10:30 a.m.
